INDUSTRIAL 7-WIRE RS232 DATA EXTENDER - PAIR

DESCRIPTION

The SerialComm REP-232-7P is a pair of high quality industrial (wide temperature range) bi-directional port powered 2.5KV opto-isolated 7-wire RS232 port extenders in a 9 pin format. The converter pair can extend the distance of TX and RX data and CTS, RTS, DSR, DTR handshake lines for two standard full duplex RS232 ports up to 4000 ft (1.2km). The units are powered from the RS232 data lines. It also supports data direction auto-turnaround. Therefore, no external power or flow control is required. The data direction auto-turnaround automatically enables the 8-wire driver when data is present on the RS232 side making the device plug-and-play, requiring no software drivers. Each REP-232-7P converter has a DB9 female connector on the RS232 side and either a DB9 male connector or 8-way terminal block on the wire side. Separate terminal blocks are included in package.

Using one REP-232-7P unit:

Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on one unit: Connect the T+ to R+, T- to R-, CS to RS and DTR to DSR on the wire port. Connect the RS232 port to the PC RS232 port. Running a hyper terminal program on the PC, send ASCII characters to the REP-232-7P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the same PC port. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of the REP-232-7P unit is working properly.

Using two REP-232-7P units:

Check that all connections comply with the connection diagrams. Perform a loop back test on two units: Connect the two wire ports per application diagram. Connect the two RS232 ports to two PC RS232 ports. Running hyper terminal programs on both PCs, send ASCII characters to the REP-232-7P converter from one PC port, and check that the characters are received at the 2nd PC port. Repeat the test in the opposite direction. This tests that the transmit and receive functions of both REP-232-7P units are working properly.
